How to Make the Most Out of Your Summer!

Updated: Jul 27

Hi ABSA Family! We hope you're enjoying the sunshine and finding time to rest this summer. Whether you’re traveling, working, or getting some well-deserved rest, there are plenty of meaningful ways to continue to grow personally and professionally over summer break. Whether you're looking to gain experience, build new skills, or just stay productive, we've put together some ideas to help you make the most out of your summer!

Work a Part-Time Job or Explore Customer Service Roles

Working in retail, food service, or other customer-facing roles teaches valuable soft skills that employers love. You learn how to communicate effectively, manage multiple responsibilities, and work as part of a team. These real-world experiences help build a strong foundation for any career path that you choose.

Take Summer Classes

If you’re planning to apply to a competitive major or want to lighten your future course load, summer is a great time to take a few classes. Community colleges offer transferable credits at a lower cost, and you can use this time to complete prerequisites, boost your GPA, or explore new subjects.

Get Involved in Projects or Volunteering

Hands-on experience doesn’t only come from formal roles. Volunteering at a nonprofit, helping a local business with social media, or starting your own passion project shows initiative and leadership, as well as being great resume builders.

Reflect, Recharge, and Self Care

Summer is a great time to slow down and focus on you. Take time to reflect on what went well, what you’d like to improve, and what goals you want to set for the upcoming school year. At the same time, use this break to build positive habits that support your overall well-being. Whether it’s working out, cooking new meals, or just spending time outdoors, investing in your personal health creates a strong foundation for success in both your professional and personal lives.

No matter where you are this summer or what your schedule looks like, it is full of opportunities to grow. Be intentional, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to try something new. Every experience is a chance to grow and can help shape your future. We can’t wait to hear all about it at our first ABSA meeting this fall!
