Hi ABSA Family, happy September! Looking to find THE study spot for this upcoming school year? Don’t worry, we’re here to help! Whether you are returning to school after summer break and needing to find a new refreshing place to get work done or you are new to UW, our list has got you covered.
Suzzallo Library
Suzzallo is known for its beautiful study hall that looks like it is straight out of a movie. However, that section is quite the tourist site, which can be a distraction from your studies. You may prefer the more traditional library scene, although it might not be as aesthetically pleasing, due to it having significantly less foot traffic. Additionally, there is a Starbucks located near the main entrance of the building, if you ever need to grab a quick coffee.
Odegaard Library
For a more modern vibe, Odegaard is the place for you. Open until midnight Sunday through Thursday and until 8pm on Friday and Saturday, it is a great spot for group projects or late-night study sessions. With updated tech, collaborative tables, and bright open spaces, it’s designed with students in mind. Also, below Odegaard is the By George Cafe, which is another great place to get some studying fuel. However, it is important to remember to bring your Husky ID, as without it you cannot enter the library.
Population Health Building
The Pop Health building is one of campus’s lesser-known spots. With huge windows, plenty of natural light, and quiet seating, it’s a great option when you want a calmer and more open environment. Again, there is a Starbuck located in the building, helpful for a quick snack during studying. The hidden gem of the Pop Health building is its top two floors. With great views of the Ave and Portage Bay, you can admire the scenery while getting your work done. It is also less crowded, however, you can only access it with the help of a student within the health department.
Foster Library
For many business students, the Foster library, located in Paccar Hall, is a top pick. With private study rooms, a clean design, and a focused atmosphere, it is a great environment for studying. It’s common to bump into friends from class, which can be a great resource when you need help. It’s also conveniently located downstairs from Orin’s place if you are looking for a caffeine boost.
Husky Union Building
The Husky Union Building, or HUB for short, is one of the most versatile places to study on campus. With plenty of tables spread across multiple floors, it’s easy to find a spot that fits your needs. You’ll also have access to many food options right in the building, plus a Starbucks for a quick coffee. Furthermore, if you need a break, the game area downstairs offers everything from bowling to console games for a mental reset. Though, it is important to note that the HUB is extremely busy during peak lunch hours. It gets crowded and loud quickly, making it difficult to find an open table.
Next time you’re looking for a place to study, check out these top study spots at UW. Whether you’re looking for a cozy library, a low key atmosphere, or a lively space with food and coffee nearby, each location brings something unique to the table.
